Gilda

GILDA, the vampyr everyone loves to love is still alive (or more than alive) and well, traveling the world looking for others like herself to be part of her family. Since she first broke through into the almost all male, all white world of darkness (now isn’t that a contradiction!) in the novel THE GILDA STORIES (Firebrand Books, 1991) her legion has continued to grow. See an excerpt from a new GILDA Story here.

Additional GILDA adventures are chronicled below:

  • DON’T EXPLAIN is the newest collection of short stories by Jewelle Gomez. DON’T EXPLAIN (Firebrand Books, 1998) features eight new stories and a novella. The new GILDA story is entitled “Houston” and returns to the past and GILDA’s flight from those who hunted vampyrs for profit and describes how she comes to meet her loyal guard and his friend the witch.
  • NEW FICTION FROM THE FESTIVAL is a collection of writing from the Saints and Sinners Literary Festival in New Orleans edited by Paul J. Willis and Aime M. Evans from Rebel Satori Press.  It features “Storyville,” a dark adventure in which GILDA revisits her first home in New Orleans, Woodard’s Bordello.
  • WOMEN OF THE BITE is a collection of lesbian vampire erotica edited by Cecelia Tan and published by Alyson Books.  “Hope on the Mississippi” finds GILDA tracking down the great granddaughter of one of her great loves.
  • TO BE CONTINUED, edited by Michele Karlsberg and Karen A. Tulchinsky (Firebrand Books, 1998), features a GILDA cliffhanger. What happens when GILDA’s past catches up with her? In 1890, the jealous Samuel tried to kill GILDA in a San Francisco alley, but failed. Eighty years later, his venom has not dissipated. An encounter on a city street leaves GILDA shaken, fearful not just for her own life, but for the lives of those she loves.
  • BONES AND ASH: A GILDA STORY, the theatre performance piece presented by the Urban Bush Women Dance Company. Who are the vampyrs that GILDA loves? What makes GILDA different from all the rest? Questions people ask about GILDA and her answers.
